Dear Major I am in receipt of your letter of 13th Inst in relation to the [Sturges] expedition and am pained to read of so great a misfortune of our arms and especially to our Ills troops-- I am obliged to you for a report on the subject and hope you will be able to secure the best attention to our brave Illinoisans -- It is cheering to note the efficiency of the colored troops
