D'r Sir
I am a son of John P. Richmond I have lately returned from West Point in which Academy I have been for about nine months. I have a good knowledge of military tactics, and can drill efficiently either, company or battallion.
My object in writing to you is to solicit a commission. I am not particular as to the rank. A Lieutenancy would suit me. I would like to serve for three years.
