Colonel: Lieut Edward R Roberts of Co "C" 7th Ills Infry Vols. is now a prisoner of war at Charleston SC. -- He has been in the army since the commencement of the war- has proven himself to be a good soldier and a brave officer, having on several battlefields distinguished himself and elicited the praise of his commanding officers. He has been confined in prison at Charleston about six months and his time expired almost three months ago. His friends are (over)

very anxious that he be exchanged.

If possible, I would request that a special order issue for his exchange, and the action taken in the case be reported to me.
