Dr Sir, Major Alleson visits Springfield to endeavor to secure men for the 54 Regt. Many of our friends are exceedingly interested in having that Regiment filled up The officers from Lt Col McClenahan down all first rate men who have been tried and proved in danger. La Salle Co must have conscripts enough to fill her regiments I trust if at all consistent with the public service the 53d may have its shares of these This will be handed you by Major Allison whom I commend to you.
