My Dear Sir, Judge William Kellogg has the appointment of minister resident to Guatemala, but does not want it, but I do. Kellogg is my friend, and I would, by no means, do anything to under- mine him, but knowing he wants another office and not that, will you be so good as to help him get the office he desires, and the [mission?] to Guatemala for me? Please write to me at Peoria and much oblige
