Heyworth Illinois May 19th 1865 Hon Richard Yates I learn that General Grainger in his official report of the operations of the 13th A.C. before mobile recommences Lieut Col R S Laughlin of the 94th for the rank of [illegible] brig gen I have a great desire to see Col Laughlin receive that mark of the governments approbation, as I well know he richly merits it. can you assist him in obtaining that rank from the war department? If you can I will consider it a personal favor for which I will hold myself under lasting obligation respectfully your friend H Noble
