To the Medical Director US Hospital Mound City Ills.
Sir:
I would respectfully request information about John R. Smith Private Co C. 116th Regt Ills. Vols. who was injured at Cairo by the breaking of a cable in Oct or Novr. last and reported to me as being still at Mound City Hospital. Will you please have him examined for discharge and if not fit subject and it is at all consistent give him a furlough to visit his home in this County.
