            Description
The Seal of the State of Illinois features a bald eagle flying in front of a field, water, and sun while holding a shield in its claws. The eagle holds a banner in its mouth with the State Motto, State Sovereignty, National Union. The 1818 date references the signing of the first Illinois Constitution. The 1868 date references the date this seal, the third  Great Seal of the State of Illinois, was implemented.
