My friend Stevenson is very anxious to procure the appointment of Major in Col Barrets regiment. Mr. Stevenson is a man of undoubted Honesty, ability is a strong republican, resides when at home in Putnam County Illinois and to my certain knowledge could bring almost the whole county on a petition in his favor if desired.
Any previous requests made by me for any other person for that place. I desire you to disregard.
