Richard Yates.
The undersigned would respectfully recommend William Ervin Esquire of this city as a suitable person for the position of Major of Volunteers. Our County has over 1400 men in the field and but one field officer, Lt. Col. of the 16th, who was elected by the Regt. His appointment would give great satisfaction.
