Dear General

Won't you write me a statement of the circumstances under which I advanced to Col James Dunlap, Ast U.S. Brigade Q M embracing your order to me from the War Department to extend you every facility, and the emergencies which justified the advance. Now Genl abuse is heaped upon me for this advance – I have attended to the circumstances in my report responding to certain resolutions of Convention which I send you.

I feel that you will very readily and promptly respond to me in this behalf especially on what was done was strictly right.
