Permit me herewith to introduce to you Mr. Zaklika, now of Galena, Illinois, and formerly a Captain in the Austrian Guards, who will apply to you for an appointment in the new Illinois Regiments to be formed.

I do not know Mr. Zaklika personally, but give him this letter at the request of Count Gurowski, a friend of his in this city, who knows him well, and who recommends him as a gentleman of worth and ability, in view of which I hope you will consider his application and claims as favorably as possible.
