Hon. F.A. Hoffman
Dear Sir I should be pleased to see permission given to Lt. Col. Ellethorpe to recruit under Genl. Blunts order from our State provided it can be done in such a way as Illinois will get the credit of the men so recruited & in addition that the men be mustered into service as Illinois troops. If this can be done I should be very much
gratified to see Col. Ellethorpe receive the permission. I regard him as an officer of merit & entitled to the favor and aid of the authorities of Illinois.
