Richd Yates,
Dr Sir
I enclose a letter to you from Hon B. C. Cook which will explain what my desire is. I wish to leave here next week or 1st of the week following for Memphis and below that point and if you will send me a letter which will enable me to visit any other place occupied by our union forces I should esteem it a great favor.
If you should be kind enough to send me such a letter as requested I would like to have have it as early as practicable as I wish to leave as soon as soon as possible
