My friend Dr. C. L. Wundt. wishes to apply for the post of Surgeon of the U. S. army. He is peculiarly fitted for that post being a first rate physician & surgeon, & a good reliable republican. Will you not be so kind as to recommend him to Mr. Lincoln?  His appointment would delight a great many of influential republicans here. If You can do anything for Dr. Wundt, & will do so, You will confer a personal favor on me.
