Dear Sir

I have received your letter of the 8th instant.

I regret that at present I am unable to offer any position to your son which would afford me great pleasure were it in my power but the Executive patronage includes few offices outside of military appointments Still I will bear your son in mind and should any opportunity present itself to place him in [a?] position where his services will be [illegible] to his country It will afford me much satisfaction to do so.
