Your note of the 23d inst. inviting me to be at Springfield at the opening of the Legislature &c is received and I reply, that sickness in my family will probably prevent me from being present, and doing all that an old acquaintance and friend could do. I do not doubt the result. you will be elected, still work, and push the election on early. I regret that I can't be there.
