The Republican elephant walks across the 1928 Republican Convention floor on a plank labeled "Platform plank opposing debt cancellation" while holding a newspaper declaring "$535,000,000 in Gold has left the U.S. for foreign shores in the last eight months; Pound sterling now at premium in U. S.- Dollar at discount in London." A lone supporter of debt cancellation stands on one side of the floor while a large vocal group of tax payers and small liberty bond holders stands on the other.
