Being attached to the U.S. Gen. Hospital Mound City as Contract Surgeon my object in applying for a commission as Assistant Surgeon is that I may obtain a more honorable position as a Commissioned officer but still remain in the same Hospital, it is my idea that all Surgeons acting either on Regimental or Hospital Staff should hold a commission from the government.
